How do you feel about Assumption . . .

How do you feel about Assumption, being a non-Catholic family?
As non-Catholic parents attending Assumption School we find it important to share our thoughts as to how we feel towards our school community.

We moved to Powell River some years ago now when only one of our three children was of school age. Being new to the community and not knowing anyone we began the challenge of finding the school that fit "us"as a family. After many phone calls and conversations with our top three choices it seemed not as easy as one would expect. Then we entered the doors of Assumption and we've never looked back. Now with our three children attending school in various stages we can say with varied experience that not a moment goes by that we doubt our choice.

We have never felt that we don't belong. The strong spiritual guidance we are offered just makes our children's education that much more complete. We are confident that they are getting the best start, not only with their education but with their foundation in life.

We can not say enough about the teachers and all the staff. Just when we think we've been blessed with the best teacher, another year rolls around and another great teacher.

Thank you Assumption School.

Proud Assumption parents,

Rob and Tamara Kondra

As non-Catholic parents, we chose Assumption School for our two boys because it’s the best school in town.  We love the fact every teacher knows our boys names and the feeling of belonging to a large family.  The teachers are dedicated to ensure every child succeeds, while having fun!  The small classes are an additional bonus as it provides the time for all students to have access to their teacher.
Our boys love going to Assumption School and our 6 year old even counts the sleeps until Monday every weekend.  Deciding to send our boys to Assumption School 4 years ago was the best decision we made in ensuring they receive the best elementary schooling possible in Powell River.

When it comes to our children’s education we, as parents, agree that the most valuable tool for their future is a great education. This is where Assumption School factors in immensely.

We ourselves are not Catholic but are extremely impressed with the school for numerous reasons. It is friendly, fun, upbeat, creative and family oriented to name a few. Our oldest is currently in Kindergarten and is thrilled with the environment for learning he has been provided with. He is in a small class of 14 children. Miss Labossiere, and her assistant Mrs. Giguere are fabulous and wonderful and they both provide a safe and caring environment for the children. Not one child gets left behind, if someone is struggling they are provided the extra support they require. We are so thankful for choosing Assumption School and will be tremendously proud to watch and participate as our children advance their education over the years at Assumption School.

Seven years ago, when my oldest son was entering kindergarten, we decided to send him to Assumption. I have never regretted that decision.
Although we are not Catholics, I felt an immediate connection with Assumption’s Christian teachings, values and philosophies. I wanted my children raised in an atmosphere of faith and Assumption provided this. I liked the high academic expectations and the fact that children were expected to behave. In a world where manners are often seen as unimportant, I found it refreshing to see that good manners are expected.  The school is a small community in itself and parents are a part of it. I’ve enjoyed getting to know all the teachers and staff and look forward to my volunteer activities. Over the years, the staff at  Assumption have become a second family to me and my children. They have been there in good times and in bad times. They are supportive, encouraging and always keep me in the loop about what is happening with my children.
I will be sad when both my boys “graduate” from Assumption but I’m grateful for the strong Christian and educational foundation they have received at Assumption.

How do you feel about Assumption, being a Catholic family?

One of the deciding factors of our family’s move to Powell River nine years ago, was the availability to provide our children with a Catholic education at Assumption School. We have since found out that the staff at Assumption cultivates the intellectual and creative faculties of the students, helps develop the ability to make good judgment, promotes in them a sense of values, and reinforces prudent behavior. We strongly believe that our children are not only receiving a high quality education, but that they are learning how to create community; a community that teaches to support, trust, respect, dialogue with, and love others. In short, Assumption School helps create a sound foundation for success later in life.

Testimonials from past and present students:

I value my education at Assumption because it gave me the tools I needed to excel at high school and university. I see former Assumption students succeed all the time academically, athletically, and socially. The most important part of attending Assumption is the morals you learn there.

Assumption has a very upbeat, loving, and supportive atmosphere. I could definitely tell the teachers want what is best for their students.

I like Assumption because you know everyone in the class like you would know a sibling. A class here is like a family. I also like Assumption because of the special attention you get from each teacher. Everyone seems to care about you.
Naomi Parkhouse, grade 8, St. Joseph's Academy @ Assumption School
